Back to school means back to brushing! If your children’s dental routines have slipped this summer, back to school is the perfect time to get them back on track. Routines help to form habits, and positive dental habits are a must for all of us. Make sure to include brushing and flossing as an important part of your back to school morning and evening routines.
Best Dental Routines
Remember these basics to ensure you establish the best dental routine for your family:
Fluoride Toothpaste: a pea-sized amount is plenty to protect those little teeth from cavities and decay.
Timing: Teeth need brushed for 2 minutes twice a day. Brushing at the same times during the day can also really set the routine into stone. Try having your kids brush right after breakfast, and again right before bed.
Flossing: Flossing is important for all ages. Start teaching flossing to the young ones, even if their teeth don’t touch yet. Teach your kiddos proper flossing techniques so that they keep those smiles healthy.
Toothbrush: Make sure you are using the right toothbrush for each child. Younger children should use a toothbrush with a small head. Kids with braces should consider using a vibrating toothbrush to help clean under the hardware.
Dental Check Ups: Don’t forget to go see your dentist twice a year to keep those smiles clean and healthy.
Importance of Dental Routines
Getting kids into a positive routine is a real challenge. Helping them to understand the importance of it can help. I know the teachers appreciate when kids have a clear understanding of hygiene. It may be easier to convince your older kids that preventing bad breath and cavities should be on their long list of priorities. But still do your best to explain it to your little ones as well.
Eagle Rock Dental Care is here to help you get back into that routine. Start off by getting those kiddos in for their check ups! Let’s make sure you aren’t starting the year off with cavities. Contact us at any of our three locations, or request your appointment online.
